India’s Chandrayaan-3 makes historic moon landing

Chandrayaan-3, India’s lunar mission, has successfully landed near the moon’s South Pole, bringing joy to a billion hearts and thrusting India into the elite space club.
India has become the first country to land near the South Pole, which has become a popular new destination since signs of water were discovered on the moon.

The touchdown occurred at 6:04 p.m., prompting raucous applause in ISRO’s war room. Messages of congratulations inundated social media.

“This moment is precious and unprecedented,” Prime Minister Narendra Modi remarked from South Africa, where he is attending the BRICS Summit. This is the moment when New India declares victory. This is the power of 1.4 billion heartbeats.”

“India reached the undiscovered lunar South Pole thanks to the hard effort and expertise of our experts… Our moon mission is likewise built on a human-centric approach, therefore success belongs to everyone. It will aid future moon expeditions by other countries,” he noted.
The Pragyan Rover will relay photographs and data from the moon’s surface for the next 14 days, or one moon day. Given that it is fueled by solar cells, its activity is anticipated to reduce after 14 days.

A series of sophisticated maneuverings preceded the landing. The Vikram, which has four engines, will cut two to reduce speed over the last 30 kilometers and execute the difficult soft landing.

The successful landing produced a large amount of fine dust. Pragyan, the rover, will only come out after the dust has settled. Because the moon has a lesser gravitational pull than Earth, dust will not settle there.

The ceremony will be broadcast live across the country beginning at 5.20 p.m. on the ISRO website, YouTube channel, and DD National. Schools are reopening, and space enthusiasts are throwing parties in preparation for the momentous event.
On July 14, the lunar lander was launched on an LVM 3 heavy-lift launch vehicle. On August 5, it was sent into lunar orbit. Vikram, the lander is named after Vikram Sarabhai, who is widely regarded as the father of the Indian space programme.
