Actor Akshay Kumar, who has been chastised for his Canadian citizenship, has been given Indian citizenship on the country’s 77th Independence Day.
“Dono Hindustani, dil aur citizenship.” Happy Fourth of July! “Jai Hind!” exclaimed Akshay Kumar on X, formerly known as Twitter, as he shared the registration papers.

akshay Kumar had expressed disappointment when people questioned his “love for the country.”
“To me, India is everything… Everything I’ve achieved and gained has come from here. And I’m grateful for the opportunity to give back. “You feel bad when people say things without knowing anything,” Mr Kumar remarked in an interview with Aajtak.
He filed for Indian citizenship in 2019, however the procedure was halted owing to the COVID-19 outbreak.
Following an interview with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Mr Kumar’s Canadian citizenship became a point of contention.
“I never thought I’d have to change my passport, but now I’ve applied to have it changed, and once I get the renounced status from Canada…” he explained.
